Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) refers to a process that assesses the competencies an individual acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual meets the requirements specified in the training package or VET accredited courses.
This means that we can use your past experiences, either work or other life experiences, to help you obtain credit towards a qualification offered by Vigil Training College.
Vigil Training College offers RPL for the following qualifications:
Note: NSW Security License Course (CPP20218 Certificate II in security operations) does not offer RPL, however you may be eligible for an Assessment Only Pathway. See course page for more details.
Step 1: Complete your Free Skills Assessment
Skills Assessment is a preliminary check to determine if the RPL process is right for you. This step does not mean that you will get an RPL for the qualification, however it is just an initial check.
If we determine through this preliminary check that the process is right for you, you will progress to the next step.
Step 2: Complete RPL Application Form & provide Evidence
Once we determine that the RPL process is right for you, you will be provided with an RPL Application form.
Through the completion of this form, you will provide us with further details of your experience (work or other) and provide evidence to support this. The information you provide will be used during the next step.
The evidence you provide to support your RPL application varies and may include (but not limited to):
A small non-refundable application fee will be required before we start reviewing your full application.
Step 3: Evidence Assessment
Based off the information you provide in Step 2, your RPL assessor will assess your application and the evidence provided. They may ask for further evidence or arrange for a call/virtual meeting with you.
After your application has been assessed, you will either be granted RPL or require GAP Training. Your application may also be rejected for any RPL.
What is GAP Training?
GAP Training is the process of undertaking learning & assessment, if it is determined that you cannot be granted RPL for a specific unit of competency. This will generally be completed online through our e-learning portal.
Step 4: Qualification Granted
Upon successful completion of your assessment (and GAP Training, if required) in Step 3, you will be required to pay the remaining fee and we will issue your Nationally Recognised Qualification!
Simply, RPL will cost the exact same as the Course Fees for the qualification that you are seeking RPL for. The course pages can be found here.
However, note that the fees will be paid in 2 parts:
Example: If you are seeking an RPL for Certificate III in Business, you will be required to pay $250 to start the RPL Assessment. Once you are approved for an RPL, you will pay $645 to receive the qualification. $645 is the difference between the course fee advised on the course page (here) and RPL Application Fee.
What are the benefits of RPL?
There are various benefits for undertaking the RPL process, such as:
The RPL process may take up to 6 weeks.
If GAP Training is required, the process will depend on much training is required and how long you take you complete this.
