Course Overview

The Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG) course provides the resources and practical skills required to identify and proactively intervene to support patrons that might be experiencing gambling harm.

The NSW government has mandated the Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG) training for Responsible Gambling Officers (RGO) and other senior roles within hotels and clubs that operate gaming machines.

Upon completion of this course, students will receive an ARCG course completion certificate & if you hold a digital competency card, the ARCG endorsement will be automatically added to your digital card free of cost. Vigil Training College is approved by L&G NSW.

Course Duration and Delivery Method

The course is delivered through Virtual Classroom online, via Microsoft Teams

Duration
The course is delivered over 6 hours, excluding a 30-minute break.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites or formal education requirements for this course.

However, students must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years old; and
  • Hold current Standard RCG Competency (See below); and
  • An adequate level of literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills; and
  • Have a Valid Photo ID (Driver Licence, Photo ID, or Passport); and
  • Have basic computer skills; and
  • Have the resources required (see list below).

Current Standard RCG Competency:
Students enrolling in this course must have one of the following:

  1. Statement of Attainment holding the unit, SITHGAM022 - Provide responsible gambling services, OR
  2. Current RCG Competency Card

The current standard RCG Competency must be presented on the day of training. If you fail to present this on the day, your enrolment will be cancelled.

Resources Required:
Students enrolling in this course must have access to the following resources:

  • Laptop/Computer
  • Internet
  • Acrobat Reader

Certification

Upon successfully completing the training & assessment, you will receive the following:

  1. Certificate of Completion for the ARCG Course, AND
  2. Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling Endorsement on your Competency Card (See below).

Competency Card:
Students will automatically receive the Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG) endorsement on their digital competency card, free of cost.

To add the ARCG endorsement to your physical competency card, visit the competency card self-service portal to manage your competency card online.

Note: In NSW all competencies must expire on the same date, calculated five years from the first competency gained. For example, if your RCG competency expires in June 2024, even if you gain your ARCG competency in Jan 2023 both competencies will still have an expiration date of June 2024. This ensures all your competencies are current and expire on the same date.

  • Anticipating and managing high-intensity situations using advanced interpersonal skills
  • Managing high-intensity situations involving distressed patrons
  • Leading a culture of proactive gambling harm minimisation
  • Responsible conduct of gambling in practice

Training will include:

  • PowerPoint Presentation
  • Videos
  • Q&A session
  • Roleplays; and
  • Group Activities

Who should complete the ARCG Training?
From 1 July 2024, all hotels and clubs with more than 20 Gaming Machine Entitlements will be required to have at least one Responsible Gambling Officer (RGO) on duty when gaming machines are in operation. Venues with significantly more gaming machines will be required to staff more RGOs. RGOs must complete Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling training. You can read more about this here.

It is proposed that other individuals related to venue operations will also be required to complete ARCG training, including:

  • Club secretaries,
  • Club directors, unless they have completed ClubsNSW Responsible Gambling Board Oversight training,
  • Directors of a company that owns one or more hotels, where those directors have an operational role in the hotel business,
  • Hotel licensees
  • Hotel ‘approved managers’ (as defined in section 91(1A) of the Liquor Act 2007)
  • Staff who are responsible for the management of gaming machine operations (if they are separate to and not undertaking RGO duties), e.g., gaming floor managers.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
There is no RPL available for this course.

Why do I need an ARCG Course?
From 1 July 2024, all hotels and clubs with more than 20 Gaming Machine Entitlements will be required to have at least one Responsible Gambling Officer (RGO) oAM duty when gaming machines are in operation. What is an RGO?
As part of a suite of gaming reforms to identify and support patrons at risk of gambling harm, the NSW Government has committed to the introduction of Responsible Gambling Officers (RGOs) into hotels and clubs with more than 20 gaming machines. You can read all about the role of an RGO here.

Can my ARCG Certificate be used in other states?
No, this certificate is not national recognised, however, it is approved by Liquor and Gaming NSW and applies to NSW only.

Students studying CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations (full-time) through Vigil Training College may be eligible to receive Support Payments from Services Australia.
